At Electrolight we are interested in using local products and supporting local industry whenever possible. We are proud to say that one of our recent projects has been designed with exclusively Australian products and not only does it look great and work well for the client, it has minimal ‘light-miles’ (think food-miles for analogy). For the record, the pendants are from Planet Lighting (NSW), spotlights from Masson (VIC) and control system from Dynalite (NSW).
And the pupils love the lighting too. You can even see one of the kids upstairs in the picture looking on at our new lights with wonder.

We have reps coming into our office to show us new LED products practically every day. It’s all very exciting and interesting but this application for LEDs takes some beating. I’m thinking next year we take this one step further and do an LED lighting spectacular on our snowboards - now wouldn’t that be cool?
I have been wondering what those green pods are outside ACMI and yesterday I found out by having a conversation with one of them. A bit strange but impressive nontheless, these information pods tell you (literally) what’s happening these days at ACMI. The pods, new graphics and signage by Buro North and a general refurbishment were all launched yesterday as part of the gala opening of Screen Worlds - the story of television, film and digital culture.

"hello"
Today we were invited to visit the manufacturing facilities at Dean Phillips’ Darkon factory.
We were impressed to see that Dean has invested in some impressive new machinery enabling them to produce a very high proportion of their excellent range here in Melbourne.
The finale of the visit was when Dean demonstrated how an extrusion end cap was CNC milled to a precise pattern in front of our very eyes. We were very impressed until there was a bang and a crash as the end cap came loose from its vice and flew into the safety barrier at great speed. We have never seen Jess move so quickly before!
It was so good to see a company who is prepared to invest in Australian design and manufacturing giving us quality lighting products at reasonable prices with quick lead times while creating jobs for Melburnians.

We think that we have a pretty full dance-card over the next few weeks with presentations to the judges for projects we have entered into this year’s IES Lighting Design Awards.
We have already traveled to Queensland to present the light sculpture at QIC’s Robina Shopping Centre to the IES Queensland Awards panel. This morning and on Tuesday we presented our scheme for the lecture theatre at the University of Melbourne School of Economics and Commerce. We still have 4 more projects to present.
Of course the burden is far greater for the judges. In Robina the judges drove an hour each way to see our project - all 6 of them. Here in Victoria, there are 29 entries that the judges will visit. The judges do not get paid and are busy people so this represents a truly fantastic effort, making possible what many people say that is the highlight of the IES calendar.

The first part of the new fashion mall at Chadstone has opened. Electrolight designed the lighting to the malls and to the grand overhead ceiling which features hundreds of LEDs shining into crystal droppers.
