MIDSUMMA – Vote and Win Tickets to T-Dance

Electrolight are contributing to the 2010 MIDSUMMA Festival by creating an exciting light sculpture to be installed on the fence of the T-Dance Party on January 17th.  The sculpture will comprise some 100 coloured fluoros kindly donated by our friends at Concord Sylvania.

We would like your input by voting on 1 of the 3 design options shown in videos below.  Leave a comment in the space provided at the end of this blog with 01, 02 or 03 as your chosen design. And just because we can, we are giving away a pair of tickets to the author of the comment we like the best and will install the design which gets the most votes.  How good is that?

    And The winner is ?

I had another thought about this project recently with that all the designs are flawed or at least the visualizations are, because they don’t take into account people standing in front of the fence obstructing the view. Realistically it doesn’t really matter which design is chosen as most people won’t see it anyway.

In an ideal world, It would have been nicer if the fence was another 4-6 taller so this art work could be scene by everyone. However this would lead to all sorts of other logistical complications ( access, availability & counter weighting )

Very hard to choose . # 3 neat .simple and follow the arrows. # 1 absolutely fab But I will go for # 2 just that bit more exciting with a tiny touch of chaos ( in a positive way ) which will go great with the people , the music and the MIDSUMMA T DANCE. Go for it . :-) ))))

i am voteing for number 2 it shows a kind of heat rate image, it shows how some of the guys heart rates will b going when a hottie walks, and towards the end it simbilises the end of the concert with the faiding and irregular beats, showing that its time to continue the night at the market

  4. Colin says:

I like 2 and 3 but will choose 3. It’s positive and you expect that it leads to something at the end so you want to see where it leads. It’s simple but a very effective way of using the tubes. It’s going to look spectacular at night. Well done!

Just had to add, can’t wait for the boys, the music and the neon lighting! BRING ON MIDSUMMA!!! :-p

  6. Shannon says:

Really into #1 and #2 but think that #2 would work the best so it gets my vote! Can’t wait to see the results! :-D

  7. James says:

I think i like the 2nd one best.

    This is gonna look great!

no 1. is a simple design with classic lines. no 2 is all messed up and no3. isn’t really going to be pointing at anything. my vote is for no 1. with DJ Paul Heron’s classic funk beats, the classic lines that surround him , the music and atmosphere of the event would be one to remember. cheers

I’m a sucker for symmetry, so #3 get’s my vote. Good to hear that y’all are having some input into T Dance. Keep it coming.

  10. KL says:

Vote goes to #3 by a whisker from #1,

    Elegance and simplicity.

And thanks for supporting Midsumma – from the company that ‘saved’ the outside of MTC’s new HQ from sheer boredom… :)

  11. Vinnie P says:

#2 for me. I liked 1, but then 2 seemed more psychedelic and more fitting for an outdoor dance party. I love how the lights are all connected at the beginning and end, but seem to become separated and distant in the middle. #2 seems more like a celebration, just like Midsumma and T – Dance itself.

  12. Matt says:

    Hey guys,

I think Number 2 will work the best. Thanks to everyone for making this happen. I’m getting rather excited as this will be my first T-Dance & First Midsumma. Woo Hoo!

    See you all there,

    Matt

No2 by a whisker from 1. The Pink Triangle full stop made the difference for me. I like the thrown together look of this project. It kinda’ represents diversity in the GLBTI community and is symbolic of the planned chaos, sense of fun and mayhem which is T Dance. Lets all get thrown together up at T Dance!

  14. Brendan cameron says:

I vote 3. The deconstructed style of 1 and 2 is very 1980′s ( remember the “pick up sticks celebratory arch built over St Kilda Rd in the 80′s – it was derided by the masses). Number 3 is at once simple and fun, is very elegant, has function in it’s directionality, has definite form and delineation. The Pink Triangles stand out clearly. No3 has a minimalist feel which is still very current, unlike the deconstructed efforts of yore
No1 and 2 look like how I would feel on leaving T Dance – messed up! No3 gives me a minute or two of clear headspace before the onslaught.

Great idea this voting on art. Very democratic. Well done!

  15. Tom says:

    I like 3.

  16. Jack says:

All three look hot, but I like the organised chaos of #1. #2 is also really good :)

I find the arrows a little boring.

  17. Rich says:

My vote would be for # 3,

As it has strength and form and just doesn’t look like a bunch of “pick up sticks” cable tied higgly piggly on a fence to an everyday person attending the event.

If you do it again in 2011 it would be nice to construct it with DMX LED tubes ( available from many sources from within melbourne, many of which would do you a deal ) and then the display could be animated ( tastefully) thought the evening.

Other advantage is that they have a much better IP ratting.

    Regards

    Rich

    Hey guys,
3 great options – my vote is for 02.
    Cheers,
